Preferences Framework
Personalize interfaces and content to meet individual needs and preferences.
Interface Options Demo Preference Exploration Tool DemoThe Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure
The goal of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) is to develop the infrastructure necessary to support automatic personalization and adaptation of user interfaces based on user preferences. The GPII will allow devices to automatically adjust to the needs of users as they encounter the device, without requiring the users to figure out how to configure the features they need.
The Fluid Project is designing the architecture for the GPII and building the core infrastructure. Fluid is involved in a number of projects that will harness the GPII to empower users:
- Cloud4All
- An European Commission FP7 grant that will develop key parts of the GPII including a knowledge base, and cross platform technology and applications.
- Prosperity for All project
- Facilitating the development of a prosper and inclusive ecosystem for a ubiquitous auto-personalization of interfaces and materials.
- Preferences for Global Access website
- Dubbed “Profile Creation Support for Cloud-based Accessibility,” it seeks to harness global networks and cloud services, delivering appropriate solutions to users anywhere, anytime and on any device or platform.
- Floe Project website
- Supporting learners, educators and curriculum producers in achieving one-size-fits-one learning design for the full diversity of learners.
Past Projects
- Fluid Academic
The initial project that marks the beginning of the Fluid community and the original releases of the core products. The goals of Fluid Academic were to create flexible and transformable user interface components that were then implemented into our partner projects.
Fluid Infusion and the Fluid Design Handbook are the outcomes of Fluid Academic.

- Fluid Engage
Continues the core work of the Fluid community while working with curators and educators within museums and galleries. Fluid Engage will address the challenges of incorporating new technology into their web, mobile, and physical spaces.
- Decapod
An open source project focused on building an inexpensive solution fordigitizing materials: a solution that will produce high quality scans of print materials. Decapod will remove the barriers to digitization such as cost, lack of expertise, and lack of distribution formats.

- CollectionSpace
A collaborative effort to develop an open source collections management software application that meets the needs of small-to-large museums, historical societies, and other collection-holding organizations.
- Opencast
- A collaboration of educational institutions focusing on audio and video content. Matterhorn is an Opencast project building an enterprise-level, open source podcast and rich media capture, processing and delivery system.
